A new fault has arisen on my Electra. Since the bottom end rebuild (14k) things have been pretty good.......until I got to the end of the lane and it started to splutter and not rev.
I had run it out of petrol 4 miles earlier and hit reserve before refilling. After that it ran fine for 2 miles.

So I thought some muck had got through. Stripped the carb and filters down to find nothing much. There's a good flow of petrol out of the tank also.
Once started which it does after 4 or 5 kicks (not as good as normal) It ticks over ok with the odd lumpy bit but once the rev rise it spits and farts and is very ruff to the extent it won't really pull away. Even on tick over it can just stop by itself. Pressing the tickler down makes no difference to the revs picking up.
I'm thinking it's not fueling but electrics.

I exchanged the battery for a new one which made no difference. I've changed the plug which made no difference (plugs were looking blackened with the sluttering anyway.)

I have removed the coil to have it checked tommorrow. Are indian made coils up to much?
It has the Hitchcocks TCI (I heard some had had faults a while back, anyone know what the symptoms were??) and new plug cap with all electric start removed.

Could I have some ideas please gentlemen.

Jimmer,
It is hard because with the Electra you are pretty much on your own. I haven't heard of any issues with the coil but I now carry a spare under my seat as well as another TCI unit because there is no way on the side of the road you can fault find except replace. Do you have the original TCI unit to try. Otherwise, work throught the loom and unplug and replug all the connectors, problem might be in there
