Hi, according to the black oily inner surface of the RH silencer and a bit oily RH spark plug I think my bike is burning a bit oil in the RH barell. Also the RH exhaust smokes white at revs a bit. However, I cannot recognize any oil lost in the oil tank, the oil level is always between the marks. The left silencer and plug are dry.
I bought the bike with 150 miles since the engine rebuild (I was told so), now it has about 600 miles, I set the carb on the richer side as for the running-in.
Otherwise the bike goes very well a the ride is a pleasure. Do you think I have a problem with such a burning or should I let it be and enjoy it as it goes?
Thank you, Pike.

Don't alter the carb settings, it is not neccessary and can be a cause of the symptoms you describe. Put them back to standard and see if that helps. Rich mixture burns sooty, petrol is just oil! It can also cause washing of the oil film on the bores, agravating the problem!

Hi Pike, that's a tidy looking machine and definitely not the one I had in mind. It might be worth you removing the timing cover to check the scavenge oilways are clear, as these can block partially [or fully] and the R.H. cylinder is usually the dirtiest / smokiest, due to being nearest the timing case and the oil supply when problems arise. Cheers, Paul.

Hi mate, I don't know anything about this particular model, but are you sure that you are getting good combustion on both cylinders all the time. If there were something dodgy on the HT or low tension on one side and the fuel wasn't burning efficiently, one cylinder sporadically dropping out then the plug could soon show similar signs. Just a thought.

Hi Meteur, what breather back plate are you talking about. I'm about to put a Super Meteor back on the road after 25 years and would like to know any tricks you had. The breather system on them was far from adequate

hi norm mine is a 1961 700cc super meteor it has a breather in the end of the crankshaft drive side with pen steel disc also on the drive side there is another breather just below the cylinder barrel this has two pen steel discs held in place by a pen steel back plate.without this plate the discs.will not seat properly this plate was missing on my bike causing blue smoke and poor running.
