I have put 50,000ks on the "O" ring chain on my Honda and it shows little signs of wear and I will probably never wear it out

Hi,
The chain runs smooth after about 100km ride. All adjustments, chain slack, alignment seem spot on but when I move the chain up and down by hand to check the slack I get sort of a squeaking sound from the front sprocket area. Is this normal? I did not change this sprocket as visually it still looked perfect? Thanks

Hmmmm----let's hope that no straining occurred when those teeth were broken off ??.......Quick fix idea,}--- spray some WD40 in and around the sprocket and its' oil seal in the casing....If the noise has gone then maybe it was a dry seal...... If the noise persists then we may have to look at other things.........

As I feared the squeaking persists. The chain does however run smoothly over the sprocket without any noise. I have a feeling it could be a bearing if there is one?

Hi Roeland, sorry but sounds like gearbox mainshaft sleve bearing. I think that is a split the cases job. I think the chain too tight has probably done this damage

Hi Norm,
OK – but I presume that will take some time? There’re no symptoms yet whilst riding the bike. Before starting to split open the crankcase I was rather hoping to wait until the 612 cc EFI kit under development by our host has been completed so I can install the long stroke crankshaft at the same time. Or would it be unadvisable?

Hi Roeland, on that I'm afraid I couldn't comment but just keep a close ear to it and if it gets worse I'd be concerned

Bullet proof - I made a wrong diagnostic - the squeaking came from the bolt on the frame above the sprocket next to the oval box. I must have overlooked this one when I tightened all other engine and frame bolts. At least I do not have to split the cases yet.
