A day of rewiring hasn't exactly gone well. Replaced most or rear harness (must order new one as the homemade one is a stopgap) and rewired most if the ignition too. Battery is flat now (I hope) after testing circuits so much. If not, then another major problem. Here is a question though... on the back of the ignition barrel there are four wires: two red, one blue and one black. The red are switched lives, the blue and black terminate in the block connector three inches from the barrel - they go nowhere. Why are they there at all? Currently not bothered rewiring them... just cut and terminated before the melting. They also go nowhere on the wiring diagram.

Wish me luck!! There is a chance, just a chance, that I have properly rewired my bike and that, for a few hours at least, the gremlins may be gone. Will find out in the morning. Certainly the lights and other ancillary circuits are working PROPERLY and the lights are brighter than they have been in a while (I found a current leak behind the battery box and the lights were only getting around 10.5V instead of 12). Here's hoping...
