Ah ha, well perhaps I can explain. There are two ways to re-magnetise. You can clamp the chunk of metal you want to magnetise to a very powerful magnet usually a big electromagnet and wait. Or you can use a little electromagnet with a big pulse of power. The first method is a bit scary as the electromagnetic radiation produced by a big magnet isn't good for one. The second method is far more isolated and more effective but does require a purpose built tool. The chunk of steel I pictured will have around three hundred turns of copper wire wrapped around it so that when a charge is run through it it will become a temporary magnet. The source of the power is a very large capacitor charged up to around four hundred volts. When the button is pushed a substantial jolt of magnetism carefully directed re charges the magnets in the flywheel making big blue crackles where once there were anaemic unreliable sparks.
