Hi all,advice please regarding the headlamp on my 2001 Classic. I'm new to RE's but enjoying every minute. When I got it I was told the headlight was good, it certainly is and I am expecting complaints from dazzled pilots and I have never seen so many roosting pigeons! I don't see any provisions for lowering (angling down) the light unit, I could resort to drastic action, shorter fork stanchions, low profile front tyre, a special shaped bezel or exporting it to India for one of their elephants to sit on, seriously though if it shines too high on mine others will probably have experienced and sorted the problem, hopefully not resorting to a lump hammer, I would like to hear your solutions before I get my serious thinking head on.

Hi Roger,
If you type in HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT into the Search box at the top right of this Hitchcocks screen, there may be something of interest from a previous post for you, complete with a picture to start giving you ideas. It is a picture of a headlamp with an adjustment. Not an elephant or a camel or a mermaid.

Hi guys-------- CHRIS have tried that but no picture ??------ RODGER, If you remove the headlamp holder and rim you'll see, at the top of the casquette, either a drilled hole OR (in later models) a slot as cast....If it's the hole then using a small file, etc just open it up into a slot....You can now tilt the rim and holder to drop the level....I have actually posted a photo of that some time back but can't find it at the moment !!

Alan, I think it's YOUR picture I was looking at! Don't know why you can't get it, that must be a computer thing, so I am instantly lost there.....Just tried it again and it does appear ok on mine. All the best, Chris

Hi guys---------- Yes, that's my No1 machine there...Thanks LUCY, that does show exactly the idea..... ROGER, you'll need to slacken then re-tighten the two screws at the side as well, remember.....

Thankyou Chris from Stockport (in brackets), I should have remembered The search engine Mr.H has kindly provided, yes interesting and if a slot can bring the light from the sky to the hedges I'm happy. Having access to an engineering shop I forget the obvious! Also thanks to Norm, I will try and keep the C of G where it is and not resort to longer shocks and stilts. Thanks Alan R, if the picture of your No1 bike hasn't got a cyclinder head what your number 2,3 and 4 like! (Joke honest).
ps, I did have a good examination of the 4 speed box IO wrote about earlier and felt the stiffness was cumulative rather than any one component so added a dollop of Molly' and hope it will run in ok, changing gear is now just about as smooth as a slug in a bucket of snot!

The slot looks like a good idea, though will presumably result in a bit of a gap between the chrome and the casquette itself when pulled forward? Not sure at all about Alan's engineering skills, though. Why did he need to take the top off the engine just to do minor surgery on the headlight? I really don't think you'll need to go that far.
