the next stage would be to add a contactless ign , something like the boyer points assist settup.

I feel tho that if the voltage drop is that bad , that the bike should be rewired and/or new ign switch fitted.

older bikes often suffer from voltage drop , a bike I am involved with (harley davidson MT350 - army bike) is notorious for voltage drop to the h/lamp. a guy has designed this http://www.rexs-speedshop.com/epages/es ... cts/HLB-MT , and it works

Hi Alan, it is a fairly dedicated forum for the CB750/1100 Super Sports, 1979/1983. These are the first of the DOHC Hondas. It is amazing how many of the 1100's are scattered around the US and Canada seeing they were only made for one year and due to a cam chain that destroyed itself due to harmonics at certain revs and the fact that crank flex took out no 3 conrod, staggering there is any of them left. 750 and 900 didn't have the same problem because the cam chain was a couple of links shorter but boy are they a dedicated lot

After running through a number of electrical gremlins, I have decided to simplify the wiring. I'm going to use LAN cable from both the handlebar controls route it back to the glove box and have only 5 thick wires going up front - Headlight1, headlight2, left and right indicator and horn.
and 4 for the back, tail light, brake light, indicators.
If I replace indicator bulbs with LED, i can avoid any high current carrying wire except the ones for the headlights and horn.
I'll drive everything using removable solid state relays or MOSFETS.
Gotta get rid of that ugly mess inside the headlight dome.

Sounds interesting rep, could you post a wiring diagram for our perusal.. always interested to learn something new...

I may be wrong but I have a feeling my R75 (12V) is fitted with 2 6v coils and not in series? (I will have to check, but it has been ok for the last 20 odd years). Going back to the relays it makes good sense to fit one if the the harness is getting a bit old, takes the load off the old wiring and you can oversize the new to avoid voltage drops.

Rep,
I rewired an early one last week, relay in the tool box 3 wires to the front, 1, power to the ammeter 2, tailight wire and 3, ground wire back to the battery. With indicators as you say that takes an extra 2 wires. The only heavier wire required is the power from the relay to the ammeter. Horn and headlights are run from the other side of the ammeter
