can I run a 2004 500 bullet without the PAV unit or will it lead to performance problems?

Just remove it Dean, doesn't effect performance at all..

Be sure to plug the vacuum pipe from the carb inlet manifold or there will be air drawn into the mixture.. Not good.

Our hosts do a domed nut for the exhaust stub.

thanks - will pitch it - seems rather cumbersome

Completely agree, just something to go wrong.

Hi DEAN !!---------- just to emphasize GWILLI's point about blanking-off that small tube attachment situated in the inlet manifold.... With mine I tapped a hole ( any near size ---it doesn't matter) and fitted a bolt sealed with Loctite..... Treat it the same as those carb. manifold joints ie}--- NO AIR must be allowed to get past......... PS}--- You now have a toolbox to use as well..........

Dean: I removed the unit from my year 2000 Bullet 500, and 2007 Bullet 500 with chair. All fine. No problems at all. Easier to get at other parts of the bike, too, as there's less clutter. You can get the blank plug from Hitchcocks or in my case I ended up with new downpipes minus any provision at all. (But keeping the old ones just in case the law changes or anything. No sign of that at the moment but you never know with bureaucracy??) regards, Chris

Alan - like the idea of tapping the inlet manifold tube and installing a small bolt - I was going to stick a bolt in the tubing off the manifold, but your idea will look much cleaner.
Thanks to all, Dean

Hi Dean, I recommend you definitely don't just stick a bolt in the tubing off the manifold. I did this when I first removed the PAV off my 350, but it just sucked air in all the same.

After initally buying the blanking nut for the down-pipe, I eventually replaced the down pipe with our hosts down pipe and less restricted silencer. Despite fitting the Amal carb later, the replacement down-pipe and silencer is still the best performance mod I've made to date.
