Whats the purpose of the middle neutral plates? Surely it would be more efficient if they were alternately positive and negative although it would draw more current. A battery in effect. Hydrogen will be produced on the negative plate but it will be oxygen on the positive. You may also be creating a bit of chlorine from the salt solution.

This does sound like a "perpetual motion" machine. But ... the alternator can produce more electricity than is needed to charge the battery, which is why a regulator is needed. Does this extra energy go to waste? If so, maybe it can be harnessed to produce hydrogen.

Or is the electrical energy is not produced in the first place once the battery is full? In that case, if you take more power from the generator, you may well increase the drag between rotor and stator, and pay for that with increased fuel consumption.

For this to work, there needs to be some energy that is currently going to waste. Maybe you could get even more hydrogen by putting a thermoelectric generator in the exhaust pipe?

@ ed-lazda... I'll never know until try. Which is all part of the fun of research.

Suffice it to say, that I've had my first explosion this evening....

Intending to do a flash test at the mouth of the bubbler (which will be the flashback stopper in due time)I struck a flame at the top of the bubbler expecting to get a little "pop" from the free hydrogen. Unfortunately, the main feeder from the generator had moved up over the water level in the bubbler.. I heard the "schooop" noise as the flame traveled up the two metres of neoprene tube back to the generator and I thought, "That's not good".

The resulting explosion was, well... quite spectacular. To say the least...

It blew the lid off my hydrogen generator, lit the whole shed up in a yellow flash and sounded like a twelve bore being fired in a living room.

After surveying the total destruction of the whole experiment and with my hair still standing on end I decided to adjourn for tea and fresh underwear.

Like Einstein said, "If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research".

As soon as I can convince the missus that I do know what I'm doing, I'll be trying again.

----- what with "not knowing what you're doing", explosions, yellow flashes ( sulphur?--- old nicks' colour), all driven by the desire to get "more-for-less"----- then I think you could be onto a winner !!!------- Do you by any chance also wear an old sports jacket with leather elbow pads--- open-toed sandals and have a shock of bushy, silver hair ??-----ah, thought so...eccentric at work ALERT !!!----Seriously though, DO KEEP GOING on this one..OK, so all you have at the moment is some hot Vinegar to go on your chips !! Remember}---- Those who never made a mistake never made anything..So based on that I can hear those "Pats. Pending" calling already....

I watched the videos and seen where you are coming from. Interesting stuff. If people didn't experiment we would still be in the stone age. Keep going is what I say.

You only have to google HHO to see what some people are up to it has been going on for years

Hi Norm, yep, I know. The others might have been at it for yonks.. but I only just got started.

It's a learning process as much as anything else and everything has to be made... Unless you really want to spend a fortune on something factory produced that requires a lot of installation and isn't built for motorbikes anyway..

There's a lot to be found via Google and Youtube.. not all of it works! It can be inspirational though.

I don't suppose you were videoing your experiment? I would add a fiver to your research fund to watch that!

I managed to do something similar, but smaller and much less spectacular, in my A-level chemistry practical. No major damage, but the guy across the bench didn't appreciate being hit between the eyes with a rubber bung.
