I'm thinking of selling my 1936 Model J (first of the 500cc ohv J models). As there seem to be few of these turning up for sale I have only a rough idea what would be the sale value. I am in Australia so its unlikely to appeal to someone in the UK, however its value there would give me a better idea perhaps.
I am selling because I have recently bought a K model with sidecar. The bike is new in the sense that it has just been rebuilt from the ground up. It hasnt been on the road as yet but it runs well. It also has a sidecar chassis that was factory fitted.

Hi David,
One way of testing the water out here is to put it on ebay with a high reserve and see what interest is shown. Everything always depends on what people are prepared to pay . Once you have an idea from ebay you can then list it on Bike Sales or Just Bikes. There may be some interest from Club members but most members here are not collectors, they expect to be able to ride their bikes and be able to mix it with the traffic as best an Enfield can. Worth a try just the same, you never know who is lurking around

David, wherever you are, if you want a price estimate you should describe the bike a bit better than just model and year! Condition? Improvements/extras if any? State of tyres/chains/sprockets? Colour (standard or not?) location of bike (important in Aus I'd have thought!) and either photos or a link to them. That would be a start, I'm sure others will have suggestions!

Thanks Norm and Mark. I would of course give a full description when I advertise it. I am just trying to get a ball park figure that these would go for usually as they are not so common hence few clues as to what they are likely to fetch. Appreciate your comments.

David, Model Js do come up sometimes here in the UK in various "used" (!) conditions so a description of your bike would have been relevant. I understand it's a bit of a long shot for you guys in Aus but most of the readers here are in the UK or Europe where all Enfields are naturally more numerous.

Hi David, there is a 1938 350 on ebay at the moment, has start bid of $3000, but no bids so far. I'm pretty sure this is the one that has been on Gumtree for quite a while with buy it now of $10,000, he is obviously testing the water to see if anybody is interested, but nobody would be interested at that price.

Thanks Norm. Sounds like it. There is a 1955 250 Bullet in just bikes at $7000 odd but also seems optimistic to me.Last year I advertised my 1914 BSA on ebay and got a lot of watchers and one offer to buy it at a low price... perhaps thinking I was desperate for cash. The price I had was a realistic one but it seems people dont want to take a chance buying unseen vehicles in a fairly high price range. It sold weeks later through word of mouth.
