I reckon '58 or early '59 Super Meteor, and it's a really nice job Dennis. One of, possibly the best, big Twins Enfield made. Loads of go but practical with it; the single Monobloc carb is fuss free, the big tank will go as far as you want and the deep guards will keep the muck off you. The project Connie I have on the bench was fitted with a SM engine in just this trim when I got it and I'd have kept it that way if a main bearing hadn't collapsed soon after I got it running nicely! I've put a Connie engine in now (that I had waiting for something) so we'll have to go Twin carbs and all the bling that goes with it but it won't be the same!

Well Guys, what can I say?, thanks for the compliments is about all, it is a 59 Super Meteor of course.

Beautifull work Dennis but how could anybody let a Gold Star end up in that condition in the first place?

I would've kept the Gold Star in the 'before' condition, just to annoy people. There's a guy in this neck of the woods who rides a complete shed of a Velocette. He makes me smile every time I see him on it.

Barry, I just like restoring bikes almost as much as riding them, I bought his B31 three years ago to restore but when I rode it it just had so much in it's favour I decided to call it scruffy and leave it cosmetically as it was and just sort the mechanicals, I over bored it to take a Triumph T140 piston this takes it to around 410cc and increases the compression ratio, I opened up the inlet port, fitted Gold Star Clubmans cams and raised the gearing, it raises a few eyebrows on club runs now as it takes off like a scalded cat and has a top speed around 95mph.

red B31 provokes memories of
when one was a farm fresh lad
arriving in sinful London from
Oz in '66, and soon after had a
similiar B31 for GBP 17 used
around the UK. Same time was a
dispatch rider at BBC Bush House
where someone stole the Monobloc
overnight. As was a restless youth,
gave machine to another DR. Your
B31 left in that patina state is
so 'gemuetlich' and envokes a time
of carefree youth that I may down-
load pix, and get it poster size
if I may. Regardless, 'twas good
you showed us these superb 'bikes,
and the effort put into them.
