Few weeks back queried for a UK
source for a simply external
canister oil filter for my BSA
500MX w/ seperate oil tank. Mark
and others suggested Paul Gott.
Although elsewhere have read
this arrangement should be setup
though the oil pump w/ adapter,
meanwhile which is better?
connnect to the feed oil line,
or the return oil line? The
latter seems vaguely right,but
be grateful of collective advice.

Hi guys-------- I currently have the loan use of a BSA B40 WD 350cc Ex-Army Despatch riders bike and the works manual to go with it.......... These had canister type filter fitted as standard..Inspecting the bike and reading the manual shows}--- "The oil filter is fitted in the return line between the engine and the external oil tank"...There you are GORDON, direct from Armory Road !!........ Incidentally the BSA system taps into the return line to supply the rockers whereas the Enfield system feeds ALL the return oil to the rockers, then through the timing chest and back to the built-in tank....

Thanxs lads, for the feed back.
Actually, should have scrolled
back to my original query. Either
there, or a week before Norm was
speculating on fitting the same
on a Enfield, albiet thru the
filler cap, and the RETURN pipe
just inside. Thanxs too Alan,
for the WD B40 manual quote so
am on the right track. Meanwhile
a friend saw my filter unit and
promptly went home to order one
for his G80CS. Maybe our obsession
will go the way of the pogo stick
given ones's umpteen Brit bikes
long ago that were lucky to have
fresh oil at all, let alone the
additional filtering. Gordon

This may be something new to you but certainly in this area of the country I think that by far the majority of the old British bikes have already been modified with a filter, I have done both my BSAs and my Triumph The filter and holder are from a Citroen 2CV and similar Citroen variants the replacement filters are available from your local motor factors at far lower cost than via the motorcycle dealers.

Dennis, Have not lived in the UK
for over 40 years, hence like
many ex pats, am reliant on you
good lads here for info. Citroens
are virtually unknown out here
'cept in late night French movies.
