Been in Orrell Motorcycles today to look into getting a B5 for commuting, when I spotted a new Continental GT 535 EFI. Apparently they're just being launched; it is a beauty, didn't see a price tag though, and I was only there to look at the bottom of the range bike. Maybe one day I'll get the Continental GT. I'd be interested to hear what people who get one think of them.

I'm VERY seriously considering a Continental GT535.
The UK price is £5199 - £5499 depending on spec.
A beautiful machine, indeed frame was designed by Harris and the bike is being made at the new Oragadom (if that's the correct spelling) plant, which is much more highly automated than the old Chennai factory.

The problem that companies have when deciding to create something like the Continental GT, as that they have to guess at how many they will sell in order to make a profit.....after all that is really all they are in it for. So to test the waters a bit.......Who on here WILL buy one? I do not mean "If I win the lottery", or "if I come into some money" etc etc.

Me Mike! Like I say, I am VERY seriously considering one to replace my Electra XS (a bike which you know) that I bought new for £5295 in 2007.
To be fair I am also having a little think about a KTM Duke 390 - which is at least £1000 lower priced than the Conti GT, but I haven't ridden one yet, whilst I have had two Enfields and probably ridden three dozen of them!
The Conti GT will not be officially available to buy in the UK until the launch at a very well known bike venue in early September.
There is a shipment coming into the UK for launch date, of which 90% are for PRE-SOLD ORDERS, so all those people have bought one Mike!
The UK market for this machine will not be large volume but a few hundred would not be unreasonable for what is a very niche machine - there are no other 500 (or 535cc to be precise) singles on the new UK market except the other Enfields, and this will be the most expensive and niche one!
I predict that the global, and especially Indian home market, for the Conti GT will be very healthy - perhaps 20% of the new factories output.
Remember though, Royal Enfield are still a much smaller company than any of the Japanese, German, Chinese or Taiwanese giants, if they produced 250,000 bikes a year this would still be a drop in world motorcycle production ocean!

Hi guys----------- I think one of our hosts full race fairings would look good on that !!-----No, I can't afford to buy, then run one of those today..And wouldn't buy a used one later on----- rather have my 2 "iron" Classic 500's bikes instead !!-----------However, that rolling chassis is just BEGGING for a donor motor (The old Yam 500 maybe ??)

alan that motor would spoil it!!! i think a nice kubota twin diesel would work very well in that chasis although i have my sights set a little higher this time tomorrow i may be sat on quite a healthy wad of money so the worlds my lobster mangetout atb paul.

That's an interesting price tag STU, I'd be tempted if I had the money. It wouldn't suit my commuting/picking son up from school etc needs. I'd expect they'd shift a few of them and it doesn't surprise me that most of the first shipment has gone on pre-orders.

I'm still considering a B5 for commuting, I used to have a 500 ES which provided me with the most relaxed and enjoyable motorcycling I've had, but I didn't use it that often for getting to work. I've read a few worrying posts about various problems with the EFI bikes, but I need reliability, is there a silent majority out there contentedly munching through mile after trouble free mile on there EFI Bullets?

I'm afraid rear-sets and clip-ons are things of the past for me but that frame looks the business. I know single down-tubes are sufficient but twins always look so much better. I fear it will be a niche market at the price they will likely want.
