Does anybody know how to test a Powerbox. This bike had a sprag failure and bent the drive shaft and the rotor rubbed fairly heavily on the stator. Would this possibly cause the powerbox to fail. Shaft is fixed, new rotor/stator fitted, flicks up 36 volts A/C easily but nothing going into the battery. Easy to check if I had a spare Boyer laying about but I don't.

No takers on this one, looks like I will have to order a new one just to prove if this one works or not

If there is 36v AC going in, measured as close to the unit as possible, but no rise in batt voltage coming out then it surely must of failed. I guess
you could load the battery with a headlamp bulb to lower the voltage more to see if the unit responds, but it doesn't sound like it will. No hidden / blown fuses anywhere I suppose?

Can you lash up an original unit just to prove everything else?

Hi Frank the Boyer has been fitted with the corect plug so I can just plug an Indian rec/reg in but I don't want to let the smoke out if you know what I mean

Send it to Boyer; they have a test service for a nominal fee if its not broken or no fee if it is broken and under warranty. Cheaper than buying a new one!

To test the power box and alternator disconnect it completely put a meter on the alternator wires and start the bike you should get around 38 volts AC from the alternator reconnect the input to the power box and disconnect the output start the bike and you should get 13.8 to 14.5 DC volts coming from the box.

Thanks dennis, have done all that and zip coming out of the powerbox. It was wired in corectly and the bike has only been ridden 8 times since it was fitted a couple of years ago. I can't see why it would have failed as it is on a bike with A/C heardlight so would have only had small wattage going through it, but I guess thats the breaks you get with electronic stuff

It's just a hunch but I think a diode went in your power box , if they get a spike or short they fail right there and then , it happened to me but my short was in the head lamp .
