That spacer is a mod beautifully crafted by the look of it and fitted to compensate for a worn or damaged clutch hub.

I have heard about the use of spring type key rings being used, tight fit over the shaft.. but thats been properly machined.

All the more odd is the fact that the sprocket tab wasn't secured after all that work.. maybe doing fit and test for distance measurement

he simply forgot to remove case and secure before fitting clutch... Telephone call, or female temptress will usually break concentration....

Sorry, Norm - The spacer shown in the pic. is OUTboard of the inner chaincase seal and as Marty has stated, fits in the back of the clutch hub - it's definitely NOT the gearbox sprocket spacer which is #8 in the manual illustration. Have to agree with Gwilly's comments......

Just been out for second time today after putting back together and all seems ok.
No oil coming out from the sprocket area, think I have been lucky.
