Norm, Are you sure the fault wasn't there before you started? If you don't know the history if the bike it may have nothing to do with what you have done!

Hi Norm
Fitted a boyer MK3 to my 1993 Bullet many years ago.
Just looked the instructions out checked on the bike.
Have you detached & left unconnected the original black cable from the Neg terminal
on the coil? Item 7 on the instruction sheet.
If its still on along with the Boyers blue wire I think this could be the root of your problem.

Hi Frank, history on a bike is always hard to get and I don't end up with these bikes if there isn't a problem so I'm not really sure what was going on before. Loco I think you might have hit the nail on the head, the Hitchcocks wiring diagram says to run the blue wire into the wire going to the kill switch but as it doesn't have a conector to go into the kill switch wire I decided to conect straight to the coil because it has a coil conector on the blue wire. Can't imagine why I overlooked this but thanks for the heads up

Disconected the black wire from the neg terminal on the coil needle still deflects to the left, got me stumped. The only way I can stop it deflecting is by removing the ignition wire from the coil and run a positive wire straight from the battery to the coil.

Good man Norm. Nothing wrong with the points ignition; just needs a tiny bit more maintenance.

Hi Norm.
Sorry you removed the Boyer, You finally had it corrected connected!
I can confirm the needle does swing slightly to the left (discharge) Its energising the coil as required.
I use it to find TDC.With decompresser raised kick bike over till ammeter flicks to left. Then just kick it slightly on till ammeter centralises. You are now at TDC just after the compresion stroke the optimum point
to give it the starting kick!
