Hey Lee I think we should count our blessings that Enfields are nice, simple little bikes with nice simple electrics. My 'other' bike is a Yamaha TDM900 - fuel injected with an ECU (gather phlegm from throat and spit). I've just spent the best part of two weeks trying to resolve an issue where the bike would stop without warning, and yet always start again. Then it began stopping without warning and refusing to start again (for a while, and then starting again).. And the helpful code from the ECU was "Open circuit detected on side stand switch". So the side stand switch was dismantled and reassembled several times, all wiring checked, all connections checked but all to no avail. Even a new (well different) ECU was tried, but all in vain.

After replacing almost the whole electrical system eventually (by accident as usual with these things) I discovered the fault - a loose wire from the main solenoid to the starter!

Now WHY on Mr Yamaha's earth would THAT cut a running engine, yet allow it to start again, and return a code saying the side stand switch is dodgey???

Yep - I hate electrics too. Cheers. Tony.

Trouble with the Classic wiring is that it's been altered over the years without being redesigned. The inside of the headlamp for instance, is a complete donkey's breakfast. One day I'll rewire mine properly so I understand it (Ahh - the famous and mythical "one day") I may well end up with more metres of wire but it will make sense, and all the connectors will match and be SOLDERED on.
