Ive just acquired most of a '54 Meteor but the gearbox is clearly wrong and from a different bike so I'm looking around for one.

Looking at the various parts books it seems that the Super Meteor/Constellation gearbox is different but could I fit one of those as a direct replacement as they seem to be easier to come by?

Many thanks,
Bernie

Gearbox is the same.might be some difference in the gears not sure but it will certainly fit except from what I can work out the Meteor gearbox mainshaft is maybe 10mm shorter I think. I have tried several times to measure with the gearboxes in situ but not 100%sure but it should be shorter

From what I know Bullet mainshaft is 11 inches, Meteor 11+3/8 inch and Super Meteor/Connie/Inter 11+3/4 inch. Hope somebody can confirm that

Bernie, I have a 1953 Meteor and quite a few spares. It is not polite to talk about it here, but if you are interested you can contact me at mumforduk(AT)hotmail(DOTCOM). Just replace the words in brackets for the full address!

Thanks for the information - sounds like I do need the right box on there.

Bernie, an Indian Albion gearbox will do the job but you will need to find that elusive gearbox mainshaft. 500 Meteor or 700 Meteor will do
