EFI Electra 2010

Just discovered that the swinging arm bushes are totally worn out in just over 6000 miles.

The more I ride this bike the less enamoured I am with it.

A good bike spoilt by low quality and lack of attention to detail.

Hi Alan R. ---- Thanks for the info, I haven’t had time to search or phone our hosts yet but it’s good to know that there is a decent replacement available. ---- Maybe there’s hope for the EFIs yet, but this sort of thing shouldn’t happen in a bike designed this century.

Yep, that certainly brought a smile, nice one. --- the comment about designing it this century was an assumption as I have no real idea when they started putting pen to paper, only that they hit the market this century and in this day and age there’s no excuse for the poor quality/design of some of the parts. Perhaps it’s a little naive of me to also assume that customer development was a thing of the past, apparently it’s not. Can I be bothered to partake in the customer development? Perhaps, it depends on how much I’ll have to do. I’ve had the bike for a year now and will keep it for at least another year simply because it’s such a sweet little bike to ride when everything works properly.

Gatekeeper, they tried a new idea but it didn't work out, bloody useless in fact. Good thing is it is very easy to press the new bushes in if you have a press, still annoying with a bike with 6000 on it but I have had to do the same at that sort of mileage

yes the plastic bushes are crap i believe the japs tried it without success in the 1970,s so why enfield fitted them is beyond me must be a cost issue remember plastic banjo,s on amals that was cheap and tacky too atbpaul.

Sorry for not replying sooner but I’ve been busy with the NABD rally and then caught a bug, I’m now trying to play catch up with my NABD workload and personal stuff....

@ Alan R, I’ve had a classic bullet for 10 years and BSA M21’s for over 30 so you could say I’m hooked already, the bullet’s my kind of bike, designed and built to a spec that’s acceptable for the cost. However the EFI is a different kettle of fish altogether, it will not be in my stable for long....

@ Norm & grunda 12, I’m all for trying new ideas but when a redesigned bike hits the market I expect things like the new swinging arm bushes to have been tested in the development stage and discovered to be “not fit for service” same for the tail light mounting bracket. For Enfield to pass these items (and others) as fit for service is beyond belief, more so considering the cost of the bike when new....

The bottom line, as far as I’m concerned, is the EFI is a disappointing bike in both performance and quality; I’ll be going back to my classic bullet after replacing the bits I’ve worn out.
