When you get the new stud, cut a groove lengthways for a short distance along the thread, it will act to clean and dress the thread in the aluminium, screw it in a few turns and then remove it and check the groove it clear, keep doing this until fully screwed home.

The stud came and went in smoothered inthread lock and felt pretty tight and ok thankfully. Two nuts just fitted and also thread locked just to be safe so hopefully it'll hold ok now. So all back together with atf in ready to try when the rain stops. 20-50 is now much cheaper than atf I found so wondered why people use atf? I'll have to change the ATF again soon as it will swill out all the bits of metal swarf I couldn't clean out following the metal grinding!
