Hi guys,

I recently posted about the lack of main and dipped beam on my 2008 Sixty-5 Enfield. I replaced the solid state rectifier and the lights worked....but now they've gone again. Does anyone know why my bike might be blowing the rectifiers??
Can i just run the head light off the battery? I don't ride at night very often but have the MOT next month so need the lights to work for that, obviously i can fit a fuse to protect the bulb.

Hi IAN ----------For a Bullet '65 it's NOT the rectifier for the main & dipped lights, but one of the two REGULATORS you need to change.......... The one for the head lights is an AC regulator as they are a DIRECT FEED ( ie non-rectified) from the generator, whereas the other one is DC as it controls the battery and related circuits.........................unless your bike has been modified by a PO.??

Hi Alan, yes you're correct it was the ac regulator I replaced not the rectifier. When I replaced the regulator the main & dipped beam both worked but now they don't again. What could be causing this to happen? Or can I bypass the regulator and run direct from the battery?

Hello IAN,----------- yes, the wiring can be modified.... our "mate" in Australia NORM and a "not-seen-lately" friend LES H have both contributed ideas in the recent past.....Are you there, lads ?? Can you help us again ??

Hi Alan, Ian, can't help much except to see if the bulb has blown again and if it has I suspect the new regulato isn't regulating properly, no big surprise there with Indian rec/regs and regulators, seen plenty that have ended up in the bin. As for converting to run the headlight directly from the battery isn't really an option as it is quite complex and also requires fitting a Boyer powerbox or similar to handle the extra charge from the 4 wire stator
