Just having a nice ride out yesterday (1993 Bullet classic) when I heard a horrible clattering noise from my primary side. As I took off the cover all sorts of bits fell out along with loads of metal swarf and aluminium dust mixed with oil!
It seems the pin holding the slipper pivot had come out and even the nut on the end was off so the whole lot had all come adrift? Sadly the threads on both ends of the Pivot pin are very poor which make me wonder what the internal thread in the engine is like? The pin has a short thread on one end with a narrow shoulder and a longer one on the other but because its all in bits can someone tell me which thread should go into the engine? I’m guessing the longer one? The shoulder after the shorter thread could be wear from the washer spinning around on it possibly? The manual I have does not show the slipper assembly and its parts in pictures.
Now I’m not confident about putting back the pin due to the damage so has anyone got a spare and are both threads the same cycle thread?
If my thread in the engine is also knackered can I bond the pin in somehow or has anyone else done any mods to the set up before? The slipper was damaged a little and has a bit of rubber where so I’ll try and get a new one of those too me thinks.
Your advice and experience would be welcomed.
