Hello JOHN R---- you slipped under the radar there..As an Ex-RN Marine Engineer (1960,s - 70's) I didn't encounter an exhaust re-cycling system on a submarine as such, but that's not to say it hasn't been developed since then...I can't see any advantage to using diesels underwater as the noise factor alone would render it non-viable, let alone the extra space required for the associated equipment etc...However the search for a fuel that generates oxygen during the combustion process is not new... Have a look at this }----- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-test_peroxide ------------------ notice the reference to the loss of the Russian submarine KURSK in particular....(A torpedo fuel leak causing a fire).... SO, you can power a sub OR bleach your hair !!!-----------------
