Chris, you can replace the T/S shaft altogether, our Hosts sell them although they are about £100 and you'll need to split the crank. The design of the Bullet timing side is unusual by Post War standards, but not that much by other British single designs. Oversize rollers used to be available to combat this, if you contact our Hosts I'm sure they have had some made recently. By the way, metal spraying and grinding is not cheap, I've just had some done on a S2 Interceptor crank (now that really is made of Unobtainium!) so that is a possibility. Finally, you're unlucky to have extreme wear on the timing shaft, it's not at all common in my experience but then, the more engines I see, the more ingenious ways of destroying motors by past owners reveal themselves!
