Should the pilot light & indicators work when the engine isn't running?
If so, how come they do but the headlight doesn't??

Still no luck, I didn't get a chance to test the regulator with the multimeter.

Thanks

Hello IAN D----------YES !! the indicators and sidelights work off the generator, via a rectifier and DC regulator ( Which charges the battery), and all done via the ignition key, BUT the headlight system is powered directly from the generator via an AC regulator.... which is why they go dim when waiting at traffic lights etc..Good, eh ??.

Hi Alan, sorry for stupid questions, getting a bit frustrated & feeling like I have bought a lemon. Started taking bits off tonight to get to the electrics and kept finding bits wrong or broken. The wiring seems to be a bit of a mess all taped up with old black electrical tape which has got all sticky with age. I'll test the retifuer tomorrow and see if they is at fault. I've downloaded the tech sheet so hopefully that will be straightforward!
Thanks
