I reported that the 2004 500 started to splutter, cough and then died last Tuesday. It started but only held low tickover then that would die as well. So recovery truck arrived. It was the coil - not the condenser, not the battery not the carb. All sorted and I post this just to let anyone interested know that the coil failed. Never in many years of brit bike riding have I had a failed coil. Aside from that it was an opportunity to do a service and we found the offside shocker bolt was hanging on only because it was pressed up against the mudguard stay. It pays to check bolts! My bike has an open exhaust it sounds great but it has considerable vibration. Please make sure you check your fixtures and fittings.
