If you ever read the earlier posts on this subject you will know that as with most things in this world, Royal Enfields clutches are not all equal, some are hard to operate, some are not, even when the setup appears the same, all you can do is ensure nothing is sticking and let the cable run as straight and smoothly as possible, good luck and please let us know the outcome.

Chris,
Another problem point can be under the rod adjuster if it isn't pushing square onto the rod and forcing it sideways

I'll look at that Norm. Been out this afternoon and its certainly better but a long way from other Enfield clutches. It seems that the problem with these clutches can be a combination of lots of small things that require attention.

does the clutch rod run free in the main shaft ,might be worth checking it for straight aswell

I found my clutch lighter by running cable down the downtube and over primary case with gentle curve into selector case, but try it with cable "flapping in the air" to see if it is lighter then.....

what about the clutch arm, gearbox end does it move freely ,and may be worth checking the little ball on the adjuster rotates on the clutch arm ,ive struggled to get any sort of working clutch in the past and it was down to this little ball ,also i think there,s a link on here about cutting the clutch pushrod into 3 or bits and spacing with ball bearings which eliminates any bending of the pushrod i,ve done it and it really does work

As soon as I get a bike with clutch trouble these days I fit a push pad inside the outer cover and let the adjuster screw ball run on that So far all work well but not sure if it would make it any lighter

i think it must push the rod out of line when the ball has seized and bind on the mainshaft bearing cover or something like that it seemed to cure mine anyway i use mine for offroad competition and seems to be light enough for that, good idea about the push pad i assume you mean the flat ended one
