Glad I read this posting.
My 2001 350 bullet is always a pig to start with very low compression after its winter hibernation.
Just tried to kick it over for first time this year without decompresser and compression seemed o.k.
I then used the decompresser and found compression was lost when lever released.
Squirt of WD on mechanism and pushing it up/down and it works again as it should.
Hope it still does when the bike gets its first outing shortly.
Thanks again.

Thanks to all for your thoughts.
Sprang into life today, and compression is now strong (unlike my right leg - which isn't).
I won't go on about how good it was to hear that engine again .............

Glad to "hear" it's running again !!---------salutary lesson learned there I think ie}-- sometimes the "technicalities" can get in the way of a simple solution !! I take it was the de-compressor sticking open then ??

Not entirely sure Alan, I got as far as squirting some wd40 in the barrel and on the decompresser. Still no compression but then got it started, warmed it up and hey presto - compression again.
Kicked it over so many times, my leg was like jelly. Best cardio workout I've had since I hit the kill switch without noticing.
