I never did fix it, its currently in the bottom of my wardrobe and I'm using a repro one. Thanks for the links chaps, I will sort it one day and report back. I was thinking of getting it brazed after the de-rust. Fellow club members think I should throw it in the canal.

Chris, stick with it! As per my earlier post, my Meteor tank had the same problem, brazing fixed it and using a tank liner gave extra security. The molasses trick really works, do it first then get Alan R to braze it. Failing all that (and it won't,) I have another tank... REgards, Mark

I did a tank welding day last year for club members here, washed out and welded up 8 that day without any problems and none of the tanks had water in them when welding, they just have to be cleaned out properly

Thanks Mark, yes I'll stick with it its just on the back burner at the mo due to other stuff. Paul The NOS 50's tank with knee pads and wing badges would be very nice but this Enfield is costing me enough in tyres!Good to know brazing works.

Worst tank I did that day was one of those ugly A65 rectangular ones with the 2 seams around it. Tank obviously had been stored vertically with moisture in it This rusted the bottom seams and the condensation got the seams on the other end. Welding these means the more you weld the more you have to chase the seam

It can be fixed and fairly permanently. There is a product called POR15 which is a moisture cure polyurethane which comes with a kit that includes a power walk and a phosphoric acid wash. I suggest if it is a hard to replace tank you give it the clean and phosphoric wash, solder or braze the holes and then give it an internal coat of POR15. It's the only tank liner I've found that works well. Good luck with it. S

Thanks for all the suggestions, tank will recieve attention in due course. Its a fairly solid early 50's bullet tank and deserves some tlc, not the canal just yet. You must have recieved your windfall Paul.
