OK--- as promised, here's the rest of the story.... Just to re-cap, this came about because I had fitted our hosts Fork gaiters and in so-doing had found that the long length of fork shroud tubing thus removed also fitted INSIDE the chromed top shroud of the REAR shocks..So using this material we can make a LOWER shroud for the open-type, REAR shocks...This way both front and rear will be protected....The lower units need to have a form of "Flat washer"shape attached so that they can move with the damper unit...Two ways of doing this,....a}---- Cut-and-Shut, ie Saw a series of small cuts about 1/4" deep, bend to 90 degrees and weld together = long, tedious and potentially messy... OR b)}----- have the same shape required laser-cut in 1mm steel then braze on, clean-up and paint to suit.. I chose the latter... I'm waiting for the ambient temp to rise a bit before I apply the final coat of gloss black, but you can see the final product almost done... I ordered 4 of the steel "washers" which, including P&P came to £6...A mornings brazing and filing gave me this }--------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE UNIT AS REMOVED FROM THE BIKE-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
