Hey group
Am about to install a petrol filter on my RE 500 since it seems that my tank is full of rust, the question is where on the fuel hose should be fitted? (a) close to the tank tap? (b) close to the carb? or (c) exactly in the middle of the fuel hose?

Tech Not Too Close To the Carb so You have a Good Bit of Petrol in the Pipe, All IMHO of Course..Fit One:

If you have room place in the middle of the run,mine came with one an inch below the tap but the rest of the pipe loops around under the carb and back in.(wacko i think).Suggest you clean and seal your tank before perforations arrive.

Hello PAT, ---- yes, agree with JAFFA 90 about that rust in the fuel tank, ie}--- prevention is better than cure..Here is my in-line filter which can be dismantled, cleaned and re-assembled in next to no time.. Well worth the small outlay I think.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------

Pat you ask where to fit a fuel filter.....in the dustbin IMHO. Get the rust out of the tank. Clean it properly and keep it well filled to prevent rusting. The filter merely cures the symptom, you need to solve the problem and thus eradicate the symptom.

The filter will stop any *rap from the tap if it degenerates,also gel from fuel going off.

One thing you need to be mindfull of here is in the original question. Ok we assume this to be a cast iron or Electra but it is only stated as a 500. Remember there are now fuel injected ones kicking around and I don't think sticking a fuel filter in the fuel line would be such a good idea so unless it is stated need to be a bit carefull

As said fit it wherever you think it looks best, but please get the tank cleaned out properly.

can anyone recomend a good tank liner as my hellectra has a load of sh1t in the tank although this doesn,t halt the phenominal performance!!i must aggree with mm ,alan youve got more pipework there than i have on the diesel donkdonk? to which i have a lovely fuel filter thanks paul,
