Does anybody know if the English swingarm threads are all the same. I have 2 new spindles here but the nuts will only fit one shaft, I believe one is from a 53, the other from an Inter Also does anybody know what the thread is.

A pocket thread gauge comes in handy for problems like this , there are a fair few nuts on my 1995 export 500 that are British cycle thread which stumped me as it was not accounted for on my gauge , I know it is a great anti-vibration thread and swing arm nuts is a safety issue , if you ask our hosts direct you will get your answer .

On the Redditch models there are only 2 sizes as standard. The early bronze bush spindles are 9/16" diameter and the later rubber bush type are 1/2" diameter, both are 26tpi cycle. Not sure about the very latest, but most of the Indian Bullets are also 1/2" cycle

Phil, Jim, thanks for that, shafts and nuts are Redditch and new from our hosts, I just wondered if there was some change between the models, didn't think so but you never know

I will bet your thread gauge can't tell you what thread the rotor nut is. It is a Villiers thread

Norm, how much is the bet? the rotor nut on a Bullet is 9/16 x 20tpi cycle. (cycle is normally 26tpi, but on some occasions it was available as 20tpi).

I think all the treads on the Reddich bikes apart from those into aluminium are 26 tpi.

Apparently for some reason Villiers decided on using 20TPI instead of 26TPI, Bullet rotor nut is 20TPI

Strangely, on Redditch bikes the front fork mudguard studs are BSF as are some engine plate studs, the rear shock absorber lower studs and top bolts are some weird size and the gearbox cover screws are Whitworth as opposed to BSF on the engine itself. Not surprising as the boxes were bought in! (Errors and omissions apply) REgards, Mark
