Hello folks,

I've just bought a crusader trial 1966 , does anybody knows how to find out if it's a real trial or a ex-road bike?
Where do i find the lists with serial and engine numbers to check if they match?
Thanks,
Pieter

Pieter, the Royal Enfield Owner's Club is the only way to find out. They have the original Factory records which include ex-Works machines. Like all records they are not infallible but ex-Works 250s are very rare so I'm sure they will be able to tell you something! The Chairman Graham Scarth is very interested to fill in gaps in the history of these unusual machines. You can join the REOC online, it's not very expensive and they can issue documents which will be recognised by licencing and insurance bodies. Good luck and let us know how it goes. By the way, can you give a description of the engine and bike in general? Pictures perhaps? There are some visual clues which will help!

Hello Thanks for the info!
in fact i will come over to England to pick up the bike the 26th of december.
There 's already a part of the bike payd so i will take it even when it's a ex-road bike...he looks good and he's been used for trial.
The bike comes from ebay uk and you've could have seen him last month.
We will post some pictures when he's here

Hi Pieter. I have a genuine 250cc Trial which I think is about 1965 and has only done 440 miles. I took it over from the original owner about 30 years ago and I knew him well. The Bike had stood for many years and was never used as a Trials Bike so it is in original good condition. It has the Crusader engine but with a flat upswept silencer and is pretty potent. I was thinking of converting it to a road machine at one stage but upon making enquiries to Hitchcocks they suggested that I drop the idea as it is such a rare animal. It has alluminium mudguards. I also have a Crusader which has a genuine 11500 miles on the clock. I bought it from the same fellow. They are really nice machines. Good luck with yours.

Hello Roy,

i am also thinking it's a real nice machine. It is my intention to ride the classic trials and these one has been used in those competitions.
I came over with it last wednesday and my first impression is really good; it's a good starter and the engine sounds good.
Can't wait to start with it here in belgium...
