Apologies for the delay in posting this photo ---- I'd transferred it onto disc and of course---couldn't remember which one !!! This is just so that you can actually see the results of overdoing it with a standard "As manufactured" piston fitted.... Set your bike up to produce TORQUE at lower revs--- then use that torque to drive higher gearing for better top speed ( or higher cruising speed)... It's actually LESS stressful on your engine--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Image

Sophiaspin, I look upon all of this as an enjoyable hobby that absorbs much of my time. I'm not interested in desktop exercises or tables of figures, I just go out and rise the damn thing! Like others have pointed out, if it breaks I mend it. If I wanted to go fast I'd either take it along to a guru like Paul the Whisperer or take a different bike.

Thanks Alan R. Today, we put in a 225 main jet (up from 220 from Hitchcocks) and rerouted the fuel pipe - an obvious but missed part of the problem. The guy who had the bike had put a convuluted loop in the pipe and the fuel was not flowing freely enough. Also put in the 5 plate clutch upgrade. Bike now takes off in every gear, pulls very well and is responsive. No slip but a touch of drag, which I will sort once the plates bed in. I have yet to take it up to 70mph, but I reckon the enlarged main jet and proper routing of the fuel pipe will stop the stuttering, which was almost certainly down to fuel starvation at speed. Thanks to those that have made sensible technical comments.

I forgot to say I canned the conical air filter, and put on a long bellmouth with gauze - the gasping I mentioned has gone. Dare I say it, but the bike is responding almost like my Venom Cafe Racer - not the same pure power, but not far off, and very enjoyable. A tour to Mull, Skye and the Hebrides is now being planned. The only downside is that after getting it sorted, the clutch lever clamp fractured (alloy) and I need to source the right replacement. H parts in the new catalogue lists one with a black clamp, but mine is all alloy. So a WiP for another week.
