Hi All

I have a Knackered 500 Bullet that I have bought as a basket case requiring rebuild.

The engine requires complete rebuild..

I also have about 90pc of a Meteor 700 lump.

The question is

1) will the Meteor go into the Bullet frame?
2) If it won't I will rebuild the 500 as a 612 (i.e bored and stroked)will the big head go on?... Will I gain anything by going with the big head on a 612?

BTW I will need a new head for the 500 either way!

Yes I know I am entering a money pit. 2 I don't care :0)

Cheers

Tom

Regarding putting a Meteor lump into a Bullet frame, I don't know but i expect it could be/has been done.

But I brought up the idea of a 612 Big Head when the Big Heads were first re manufactured, and was informed that indeed it can be done- and the result is a helluva bike!

Cheers John.

I am planning to build a bit of a special.

It's gonna take an age and a half due to finances etc but the plan is to build a Cafe racer based on Mr H's new kit (Looks smart dont it!!)

I had the Meteor lump which I bought as a spare lump for my Connie if I ever needed crank cases and barrels etc..

That will also need a rebuild but will probably be cheaper option than building the 612 up....

I reckon a tuned Meteor lump in the the new Cafe racer will look the mutts doh dahs.. and go like a scolded polecat!

I will be selling of mudguards tank etc etc as soon as i get round to picking the buike up and stripping off all the bits I won't be needing...

The customer's bikes section of the Gallery on this site has a picture of a 612 Big Head- though as it is dated 1991, I imagine it's an original Big Head given the 612 treatment.

Tom, the answers are yes, (Meteor into Bullet frame no problem,) Yes, (the Bighead will go on a 612,) Yes, (the Bighead can give a further performance gain on a 612,) so it's good news for Mr H's till whatever you do! Seriously, I helped a pal do the Meteor/Bullet build (it's called the Mullet!) and it makes a really nice bike. REgards, Mark

By
coincidence there is a great article on 'The Mullet' in the next
issue of The Royal Enfield magazine (issue 5).
In
fact, a shower of meteors!

Tom, I broke my 2007 Electra for spares and sold the frame to a friend of mine. He has fitted a 500 twin engine into it without any significant problems. I've also seen at least one other successful Meteor engined Bullet in the past.

I got caught recently fitting an Indian 500 into an early twin frame. Motor was sitting on the floor. Thought it would be a good idea to just drop the frame over the motor, couple of bolts in and lift it up onto ths work stand. All went well, everything bolted up, wheels on etc, then I went to take the rear rocker cover off but I couldn't get it off because the twin frame has the mount for the headsteady directly above the rocker box. doh. I pushed it into the back corner of the shed

well done tom ,as john says it will be a helluva bike choose what you do ,just to be different i,d fit the meteor lump ,just out of interest what are the engine vibes through the bars on a dogsbollox 612?i would think the meteor would be less vibey if the crank is one of the re special balanced jobs i,ve heard of ,either ither good luck tom atb paul.

"I also have about 90pc of a Meteor 700 lump". Tom, this is the worrying bit, it is the missing 10pc that will be hard to get, that is why it is missing but good luck
