Thank you for all your replays.

Big al, I have put 2 base gaskets in but I am sure that adding 1 more wont make a difference as it is hitting by abit more than a few thou.

Mark: I think this is the way to go. I will order a +.20 ring and hopefully this will cure the fault. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks for all your advice.

Ed, one last thing.I tried to post last night but there was a problem with the Board. From the 1964 model year (which means bikes built from September 1963,) there should be a compression plate under each barrel. Do you have these fitted?

Hi mark,

No I don't have any compression plates fitted, just 2 paper gaskets. The online catalogue doesn't show any plates for the mark 1

Ed, no it doesn't but the list of Parts Books isn't complete that's why I took the trouble to explain. There are other Parts Books (not found here) that do cover this. Do you know what year your bike is and if not, tell us what the engine number is and we can get quite close using data collected by the Interceptor Owners Group. By the time these bikes were built the Redditch Factory was winding down and a lot of information and specifications are not in the published material. REgards, Mark

Hi mark,

I have been told by my mate who owns the engine it is a mk1 1966, should this still have the compression plate fitted?

Cheers

Yes, if you read my previous post I said plate fitted from (about) 1964 so plate should be there. It was even possible to use 2 if lower compression required! It would have saved a lot of trouble if you'd posted the correct year of the bike to begin with! Hitchcocks do have a paper copy Parts Books for these bikes, I suggest you get one to assist parts identification. My bike is also a 66, what is the engine number of yours? There were quite a few changes at this time.

Ed, I'll come back to you after I've done some research, this number suggests a very late Mk1 engine indeed! Mine is 16880 and is december 65 (66 model year,) so the one you're working on is very late given the Factory closed early 66. Dates uncertain! REgards, Mark

Ed, can you check that number please? If it is a complete bike, can you check the frame number too? REgards, Mark

Hi Mark, the engine no. is correct (Ed's rebuilding it for me) It came in from the States a few months back. It's not got a matching frame though, going into a '64 frame.
