Hello there, first time poster.

I need help with picking out the 612 kit. I have a 96 Indian made Royal Enfield Bullet and I bought while I was working in India and have now brought it back with me to the states. Of course with my luck and Indian build quality, on my first drive to the DMV, I'm pretty sure I over sped it(I have a 15" rear tyre) and now I get a great knocking noise in the engine. This has happened once before after a full rebuild so I'm pretty sure it's the bearing for the rod/crank. Now I'm planning on rebuilding the engine myself and I would like to go with the 612 kit. Will I need anything special, it has been very modified: I had them install a new 5 speed gearbox, but had them machine it to keep right hand shift. Also what gearing do you suggest so I can drive this at 80-90 mph without over reving the engine again? Has anyone personally installed the 612 kit? I have rebuilt car engines before so I wonder how much more difficult this will be. And lastly, is it worth the price? I love my Bullet, but after bringing it to the States, I realize how slow it is. I want to be able to take this out on the highways here and not be forced off the road. If I can post imgs on here, I'll drop a pic of it. Cheers.

Jason, for the cost of the 612 kit you could buy 5 Harleys in the States but if it is an Enfield you want then the 612 is a great unit.5 speed box I'm not sure if they have a 22 tooth sprocket, I know they have 21 tooth. 22 is as big as you can go. At the moment we are looking at building a longstroke crank using old flywheels (we have plenty of those) and fitting a Harley sleve to the alloy barrel taking it to 89mm, Harley piston and that will give us 652cc I believe

Logs,
I am not a lightweight and am currently running a 20t on my 612 which is also using a 5 speed gearbox. I have a 19" rear tyre and beltdrive. A genuine crusing speed of 90mph with this gearing is no problem and have spent many motorway miles at this. It also gives plenty in reserve if you wanted to be naughty! It is not really any more difficult than building a standard Bullet engine although common sense is useful.

Only way to go is the H 612cc crank,it's properly engineered to deal with the usual vibration issues once
going over 500 in a single.Fitting Harley piston to a Enfield will gaurentee a mass vibrator, ask our old
mate freddy.

a big single engineered properly should not be a vibrator ,i rode a 652 suzuki savage before i went patriotic or was it idiotic, and the big suzuki was smooth as silk and with just an open pipe it cruised 2 up all day at 85 until its 2 gallon tank dried up atb at christmas paul.

Does the Savage have a balancer shaft?bet it's short stroke too.
Tollgate did these big heavy conversions and yet you hear nothing about them,
wonder why.
Mr H 612cc crank has special short light conrod and would be the best option if
you want to go down that route.

Thanks guys for all the quick responses. Quick questions, first off how will the 612 kit cost more than 5 harleys?? It's what 2500 pounds for the kit, add a couple things like digital igition, sprockets, etc, and it's around 3k. Not so bad.

Will the new cylinder come already prep for the piston, or will it need to be thatched?

I'm hoping the 20/21 sprocket will do it. Again I have the 15" rear rim, so that does bring the revs up quite a lot.

Here's a pic of my baby when it was still in Chennai. Sigh, Indian paint isn't the best so a paint job is gonna be in order soon enough. Any other suggestions on what to get along with the 612 kit?

Cheers,
