Hi Dean, going back on your head removal problem I recently had the same on a twin the washer or head crimping the studs but also on one stud I think the head gasket must have been leaking at some time and oil and carbon worked is way round the stud building up from the bottom and cooked itself round the stud forming a solid coating like you get on a burnt oven tray it took me all day with a good pair of small Stilsons (not mole grips)to unscrew the stud out of the crank case and up through the barrel afte I removed the head I now got to helicoil the thread in the crank case Good luck with your rebuild

Hi Dean,
You won't go wrong with hitchcocks valve, seat, valve and valve guide sets. Yes there hardened and better than Indian made originals. Mind you the later made Indian parts are much improved.
John.

Hi Guys ( PILOT & DEAN )----------- since placing my last post on here I have actually visited our hosts ( on FRIDAY) and took my 2 cylinder heads with me for them to view...Amongst other things we discussed valve seats---and in particular the ones supplied by Hitchcocks themselves..I was assured that these are made by a very reputable European company (My apologies--- senior moment --- forgotten who they are now !!! Anyone at HITCHCOCKS help me out with their name ????) and that they ARE hardened... ie HARDER than standard Indian ones and suitable for use with the E5 fuel currently on sale..
