I bought another clutch lever off some Jap bike or other, which is not dog-legged like the original Enfield one. This allows about 5mm more 'pull' at the lever because there is no dog-leg to contact the bar.

Another Allan, don't happen to remember what the lever was off do you? another 5mm (that would give 25mm cable travel) is what I'm looking for and that should give about another .6mm at the rod so clutch probs would be a thing of the past

Hi Norm. Sorry, I can't be sure, but pretty certain it was a Suzuki of some sort. I bought it on e**y, brand new, for £2 plus p&p. I had to file it a bit for a snug fit in the Enfield bracket, but it works a treat. Have a look on our second favourite website (!) and you'll see loads of different ones, and just ask the seller what the measurement is between pivot and nipple hole to make sure it is the same as the original. thanks to all for the info on detremental cover flex, the only problem i have with the diesel,s clutch is intermitent slip on starting due to excessive compression ,when my catalogue comes i may invest in the mod atb paul.

Paul, clutch mod won't stop the slip in the clutch, back the adjuster screw in the cover out, kick it over, if it doesn't slip it means you have pressure on the rod and it is starting to ease pressure off the pressure plate. If this is the case you need to look at the perch and lever mods The mod is great but it is onlyone step in fixing the clutch

Paul,
I wonder if fitting 3 slightly bigger balls in the actuator might help
