Hi Guys,
Alan R, have enquired about soda blasting before but the bloke will only do it if the spokes are out of the rim (have asked a few blasters who say the same thing) my mate has just had his ducati engine done out of the frame) by one who says the same thing but done a sound job, the solvo is a no go, its the hub middle which i want done, as you know its rough cast so solvo wont work on it, am after the alloy lightened not polished, the outer hub faces are allready polished which i have used solvo (have used it for years,(am a full member of the black hand gang) has anyone used T-cut, yep T-cut not the liquid car polish stuff but the T-cut in a tube like solvo, i have used it and can recomend it, it goes on like solo but shines up realy well maybe better than solvo.

Alan R the ice blasting looks a good idea but i aint heard of any one here in uk who does it, have you any contact details you could pass over.

Cheers

Hi guru…. Many years ago when the word was young or at least I was, to keep the hubs of bicycles clean of dust and oil from the wheel bearings we used to put a small leather collar round the hub so that as the hub went round the leather band rubbed the hub clean. Presumable same as Norm’s pipe cleaners. So maybe if you could find a long thin dog collar, soaked in oil and Basso or something and fit it loosely round the hub, as the wheel went round it would gradually clean it, and If the leather was narrow enough get in the grooves of the hub…….Regards Fred

Thanks Freddy, that works fine on a smooth surface of the chrome sturmey archer hub (have used it for years on me 3 speed and yea it does the job),

Alan R:- now that looks the biz, thanks very much for being an eagle eye I can see that doing the job spot on. my mate has a commpressor and gun aswell so as soon as his set up is available will have a go, he will prob want a go himself on a test peice when i direct him to the video.

Thanks

Hi GURU,
In the past I've used a liquid cleaner (called Ali-Clean or similar) that's based on phosphoric acid and helps remove the corrosion that dulls the aluminium. You brush it on, leave it for a bit then hose it off. I believe car valeting companies use a similar product for cleaning ally wheels on cars. Might be worth checking out.
Cheers,
Geoffers.
