"Which leads on to the obvious question, is there a diesel conversion in South Wales that I could have a look at, and maybe a ride?"

Wiseowl,
If your in South Wales your not far from Price Parts in Gloucestershire.: http://www.pricepartmotorcycles.co.uk/
I too would like to go down the Oil Burning route. A test ride is what I'd like too, but I'm 170 miles from there. The DIY kit of parts is over £1100, but having just read Grunda's notes, maybe that whole kit of parts is not required. I'll investigate this a bit further in the near future.

Hi Paul,

thanks for the info, I gather from what you wrote that all I need to do wrt re-classification is visit my local MOT'er and not get it re-classified by VOSA? I guess the next practical step is to get a diesel and start fiddling to see how it will all fit together, in the meantime it'll be a lot of mulling over.

I like the idea of visiting Pricepart motorcycles and taking a look at what they do, if only to get a few ideas and some questions cleared up. There's nothing quite like seeing a solution to get it to sink in.

Cheers

Martin

hi wiseowl ,initially i just altered the v5 in the changes section ,it took 6 weeks to get my v5 back unchanged then a letter came from dvla (the bike had been mot,d in the meantime )did the letter myself mot man put his letterhead on used his mot stamp (letter containing fuel change ,cc change the main 1 engine number change) 1 week later v5 back change they asked who did the conversion ,i told them a local engineering firm which was only a half truth as i am a qualified welder and i work for a engineering firm (welder fabricator)i aggree if you need a run down see henry price he is the enfield conversion guru in this country ,have a look at the sommer enfield bikes although he doesnt use an enfield frame his is great although sheds full of money ,the big knock rally held in west sussex in june is a mecca for diesel bikes of all sorts lots of foriegn diesel enthusiasts and some superb conversions atb paul.
