Can't see your reasoning Norm. There are two wires going to my indicator warning light - pos. and earth. Just just need to make sure the polarity is correct for the LED (which is, as you say, a diode and so is polarity sensitive)

Peter, think about it, you answered you your question, 2 wires going to your indicator light, one for each side There is no earth wire because the globe holder is insulated from the speedo and the return is the indicator side not being used. Globes don't care which way they are fed but LED's do

Freddy,
If you can give us the the details as to how it works you will make a lot of people happy, but if anybody wants to try this and see if it works, go ahead and buy a B9A LED and plug it in. It will only work on one side

Peter, just another quick one on this, pull the fitting from your speedo and you will see one wire goes from one blinker to the body of the globe holder, the other blinker wire goes to the globe fillament. This is how they use one globe to do 2 jobs

dynamoregulatorconversions.com market bi-polarity LED bulbs in 6&12V. They also supply electronic dynamo regulators, which in my opinion are the best of its type. These however, can be better sourced from the manufacturer, dynamoregulators.com

NORM you are absolutely right. I retract my previous statement totally..... Taking my nose from the diagram and pointing it at the bike,... i've just realised i converted my indicater warning lamp some years ago.... from the speedo to a hole drilled into the cassette, using a 4 watt bulb in a amber glass warning lamp....... The body of which is plastic and doesn't earth to the metal at all..... Yes so it sees the earth through the non working indicator circuit...... So Freddy i dont see how yours is working.... unless the LED holder is earthed to the metal by design or accident.... I wish i hadn't said anything now... SORRY MATT... nothin to do with rear lights..... I move....... gwilly.

Quite right Norm!! We live and learn. However you could still use an LED if you gave it an earth and used blocking diodes on the two feeds.

Norm, I agree with you and everyone else, it shouldn’t work. So maybe along with the details for this I should send you my working models for cold fusion and perpetual motion machines. By this time next year we will all be millionaires. But anyway you’ve got me thinking now, so tomorrow I will go out in the freezing cold and actually check the connections and type of bulb. If it wasn’t for the water between us I’d ride over and show it to you, at least it would be warm but I suppose by the time I got there it would be Winter!!!!! Regards Even more freezing cold Fred

A query: Would a perpetual motion machine still need lubricating? Presumably it would only be perpetual if looked after. -Chris

Fred,
You could walk and swim to get here and it would still be hot. I parked on the newish footpath the other day outside the pub and it was a 40c day and the centre stand punched 2 big holes in the asphalt. I left quickly
