Alan, neg side of coil goes to the kill switch then to the points, it opens the wire between coil and points, this is why you don't get needle deflection with the kill switch off

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your input. So, today I tried starting with ignition off and nothing happened, then started with ignition on and it started no problem, then I switched it off using the key. So.....from this it seems that this issue I am having only happens when I've been for a ride or when the bike is hot! As it would not turn off at all if there was a wiring issue...right? To re- cap it started this morning and after about 1 minute of running it turned off using the ignition key as it should do.

Starter relay (if you're an electric start)
Mine was shorting allowing current to flow back into the ignition circuit.
