Tried your suggestion Les but to no avail,So used an old drill as a punch (upside down)to spread the washer inwardly then did the same from other direction ,hey presto !it worked ,hope you can follow this. bob.,

Well done Bob, I'm glad you got them out, and thanks for the feedback. It's surpising how soft they are if you managed to spread them enough to get a purchase on them from below. Your method will be of use to many others with the same problem I sure. ATB....Les
