how much do people know ?safety critical item ,the back plate cannot fall off the fork is slotted into it the pin stops the small movement and the knocking when applying the brake if it was of serious consequence it would not have been remedied in the said fashion ,so wind your necks in pc brigade ,anyway its my bike and its not for sale to any unsuspecting idiot, i could have used stronger language does anybody know better? get over the panel pin!

Grunda, I'm about as far away from PC as you can get but I wouldn't do that. That is a light alloy casting and the pin will point load it and soon press into the alloy. Asking for trouble I would think. Cut a bit of alloy to shim it over a bigger area - much better bodge (sorry, "impromptu repair")

Having experienced part of the brake plate casting sheer off under heavy braking, I can assure you it is not a nice feeling when the front wheel locks up and send you sliding down the road. I blamed a combination of excessive play between the anchor point and brake plate along with a poor casting. This was many years ago with my first Enfield which I had recently bought. Never again will I ignore the play or bodge a remedy!

I'm sorry chaps if you are taking out slack by pinning or shimming on the wrong side then you'd best leave it all to the professionals. The brake plate works in the vast amount of time in one direction only. The times when it works in the other is when you are rolling backwards. To take the slack out of the anchor block ( not particularly necessary in my opinion) you would shim or pin it on the slack side meaning there would be no risk of inappropriate loading.
