Just a pipe dream at the moment but how easy would it be to put an Enfield motor in a Featherbed frame? Where do you get new Featherbeds from? It's appealing because it sounds easier and cheaper than building a Triton.

I saw a Bighead Bullet motor in a Featherbed frame as a cafe racer at the Pioneer run some years ago. If that fits, a Twin definitely will! It left a lot of room behind the gearbox as the Norton engines are pre- unit but that's special building for you. Try Norvil (ex-Fair Spares) for frames but there are others out there.

Hi John,
Our 500 Big Head racer uses a shortened Manx type frame. My Brother shortened the cradle and rewelded it. It handles well enough to win races on occasions. Let me know if you want some pics. There is a place near Aberystwyth making new Featherbed frames, longer than standard, to accept Harley engines. If you Google 'Norley', that should find them.

John you can buy new Featherbeds from Andover Norton, plus all the ancillary parts for the frame, and also from Unity I think. Les Emery at Norvil probably supplies them. They will not be cheap, but then nor are second hand ones these days. I reckon a Royal Enfield single will fly into a Featherbeed frame. If you use a second hand frame then make sure you get a V5C as it will make registration much easier. All of the above can be found by Googling them and going through their websites. HTH.

Something quite appealing about a Consetllation or Interceptor engine in a Featherbed frame, all done up cafe racer style!! mmmmmmmmm!

One day... it would cost a lot, but here in Guernsey there's no VAT even on items imported from the UK, and with our own "Swansea" details like the V5C should not be so much of a problem.

Have a look at this pic of our Norfield under construction. It is a 680cc big bore, long stroke special in a wideline featherbed frame. Bike is actually complete and on the road but this is the only pic I have at present.

That's nice! See what I mean about the space at the rear of the gearbox. Mind you,this one is much neater than the one I saw all those years ago. I have just lent a Bullet engine (cases only,) to a local chap who is building a racer using an ex-Geoff Monty Triumph frame so I'll see if I can get some pics of that.
