I think Beezabryan has found the important bit. I've checked my V5's and they show the declared age at the bottom of the front page. So no problems at all with MOT test exemption and free Tax application. Thanks Bryan.

Hello Pete it may say first registered 2004 but look lower down and it might say manufactured 1959. I had the same problem with my GPO Bantam when getting the original number back and despite all the paperwork from the Post Office Owners Club verifying it was a 1956 machine i got the new V5C stating manufactured 2007 but i never noticed till i went to tax it and was refused. I then had to send all paperwork to DVLA to be altered and it came back First Registration 2007, manufactured 1956. No problems now so check the V5C again. Good Luck.

Thanks all for the more than helpful advice. got through to the Dvla today and although my v5 has the bike as new and 1st registered as 2004 they have it as manufactured in 1959 which has been confirmed as MOT exempt. I will still go for an independant inspection for peace of mind though i think.

Thanks again lads
