Hello again, MATT ----------- I hope I'm not too late with this but PLEASE do cosider using ATF oil in both the primary AND the forks for a MUCH superior run. It's a proven mod over a long period of time with lots of satisfied owners. "Flooded Points" ??? ----------- that's a new one, I must say !!!Buy 2 sets---(as they are commom to your 500), so you now have a spare, and a new capacitor to match will see you on the road again. Just in time for some Autum Trails or Green Lane stuff !!---Magic.

Two things you can do. First there is the waterproof rubber cover from Mr H that can be fitted. Secondly, as you mention, you can seal the points cover, if doing this it might be best to ensure that it is not completely sealed, but leave a small gap, right at the bottom, so that should any water get in, at least it ha an easy way out.

Hi guys --------- yes, even though you fit the watreproof rubber cover it will still need to "breathe" to avoid condensation so a small hole at the bottom, as HOWARD says, will do the job----- I would have thought that our hosts would have incorporated that into the design anyway ??. I've not actually seen one so can't say. MATT--- ok, the 10w/40 eng. oil in the primary is not really a problem BUT I can't urge you enough to drain and re-fill your forks with ATF. It's NOT a tech.issue here but more of rider comfort. As made, and as per the riders manual the forks will have a 20w/50 oil AND springs on the H-A-R-D side fitted. The combined result is SHOCKING to say the least !! There is little if no "give", plus you and your shoulders will feel every nook and cranny ---------- and that's just on smoooooooth Tarmac !!You'll probally find that just the change of oil alone will see your fork legs moving freely up & down whilst on the move---thus allowing the system to actually ABSORB the shocks rather than pass them on to YOU !!( Free and for nowt. )......Both my Classic BULLETB 500s' have this mod. done. My club rides' regularly clock-up 150 to 200 miles and my arms and shoulders are pain-free ( apart from the normal 63 years of Farty-bagness that is ). Ho-ho !!!

She's alive! We simply cleaned the points, put it all back together and she went after a few kicks. She ran well and ticked over great. We went for some laps of the in/ out driveway (cheeky cheeky) Letting her warm up was a joy, the smoke stopped and I'm really happy. The valves and rods are a bit loud so I'm going adjust them tomorrow when the engine's cold. The whole package of points, condensor, carb gasket etc is arriving tomorrow and looks like it's not needed. (It's nice to have spares though) Happy days. The next job is fix the intermittent lights, replace the tyres (arriving tomorrow) perform an oil change and put her in for an MOT. When she first started up though she did chuck a good spurt of oil out of the breather... I guess this is something to do with "wet sumping" having stood for so many months? Thanks everyone for being with me for this journey.

Hello again MATT---------HOO-RAY !!!! Gr8 news indeed and v. well done. Now here's another of those little mod.s you can do which will help your brakes at MoT. Have a look at our hosts "TECHNICAL NOTES"----->Wheels & Brakes,Front Brake Overhaul (Twin Leading)--- it's a download so you can print-off and take into the garage. Just follow the instructions and you will have a front stopper that's vastly improved. It should only take an hour or so using an electric drill and a 5mm lock-nut. Again--it's a proven mod. used by many drum-braked Bullets.

Brilliant Alan, that modification seems very sensible. I've experienced the pain of balancing the twin leading drum on my 500cc. I think I'll mod that as well. My £250 350cc can be the experiment/ practice. Perfect! HaHa. The 350cc has a very long silencer. I have an old 350cc silencer from a 2004 bike knocking around in the workshop, it's quiet a bit shorter. I think I'll put that on instead of this cannon of an exhaust. The only problem is the bracket. My 1993 silencer has the bracket welded on to it. The 2004 one requires a separate bracket (same as my 500) which I don't have. I could make one up easily enough but for the sake of a few pounds I had a look at the online parts book for my 500 and the bracket listed looks different. Mine has a much larger angle on it. Is it just the drawing that makes it look like this does anyone know? (P.S I shouldn't need to re-jet the carb with this new silencer should I? It's 350cc standard equipment.)
