hi guys, 2008 electra x, standard mikuni cv carb. starting bike with enricher pulled out results in very high revs, pushing enricher in a notch still same high revs, if i push enricher in the bike dies. if i increase the idle with the large idle screw after pushing enricher in everything is fine untill i ride her her a few miles down the road and then the idle is far to fast and i need to decrease the revs. same carry on every day, any advice please. thanks. ian.

Hi WOLF ----- do you have an in-line fuel filter fitted ?? Sounds like there is a partial blockage in the primary jet and weak running which the choke temp. cures by enriching. The CV type carb only uses the Vacuum/Diaphragm to raise/lower the throttle slide, all the rest is as per the manual operated carb. type......Ensure that the slide is free to move up and down and in a smooth,controlled manner. I'm hoping it's not a partially ruptured or torn diaphragm itself. This would give erratic and even no lift to the slide. Spare ones are obtainable if need be. PS---what's the mileage ??

Hi there---- That's a very LOW mileage for its' age!!--just a thought and I've been and checked on a spare NoS unit in my workshop but}--- you are using the choke button in the correct direction, it seems. I believe it's PULL OUT for full choke --and PUSH IN for normal running ?? Either way it sounds to me like a strip & clean wouldn't go amiss.... Where are you ?? If nearby you could borrow mine to keep you on the road whilst you check-over this one ?? It's New, Old Stock that I bought for a "Project" a year or so ago and now is surplus to requirements.

thanks for your kind offer alan but im up in glasgow. bike has low mileage as its one of four bikes i have, most of my riding is done on my pan european, ps i never use the clutch when upshifting, lol, read some of your other postings, nice one, i ada good chuckle.

----------it might just be as simple as some lacquer or similar stuff from partially evaporated fuel if the bike's being left unused for long periods of time ??------condensation is another possibility. I'm not too familiar with the actual location of the carb on the bike but have a go at removing the float bowl---- carefully mind ---and see what's in the bottom.----Have you acces to some compressed air ? Give the jets a blow-through as best you can.-----------CLUTCHES ????? AAAArrrrrrgggghhhh!!! YES, I must learn to "get a grip".

ok might be onto something now, there is a small hose that runs from the carb rubber manifold (the manifold from the carb to the engine block) this hose seems to run up under the tank. Just realized its completely severed. If I block the hose from the manifold my revs increase and bike sounds and runs more evenly. ???
