Hello fellow Enfielders

I'm still using the Mikcarb VM28 and was wondering if anyone has used the service kit as sold by our host?
Has it made any noticeable difference?

If there is a problem with your carb then it could well make a difference. A few details of your problem would help.

Thanks for the reply mate,

The bike is now a 535 with a strong bottom end. (Perhaps a bigger carb would be in order?)
Only problem is that sometimes the revs drop slowly when then motor is up to temperature. Max speed is about 120kph (Enfield speedo) A few folks in the Enfield club down here advise the VM28 is quite adequate for a moderately modified bike.

I too did travel, met a few widows too but I was never a son to them

I was taught to be cautious about carburetters. It won't do any harm to overhaul it anyway, with the kit. Then all being well, you'll be forming an opinion on its suitability, based on a properly-working instrument.

If you are talking about the Jap made one then I have recently used it to refurbish my VM28 without much success...The choke plunger would not fit down the barrel and I spent quite a while with fine steel wool polishing the choke piston to get it to fit.....To cut a long storey short I could not get the mixture right at any setting – very rich, the plug looked as if we were burning nutty slack not petrol. I removed all the kit and put in the cleaned up old jets and all was well again, although other than the choke plunger problem I could see nothing wrong with the kit.....Phil

I'm in Queensland, Australia but would love to visit one day. We do things the "Scottish" way in my club.

I asked about the carburetor kit just out of curiosity. I think the mikcarb is not a bad little unit but I may just go for a 30mm one day.
